Highland Games Camp Portland, Oregon

Highland Week July 16-20, 2012 All camps this week have a theme of Scottish and Celtic lore.

Test yourself in the exuberant fun of the Trackers Highland Games! Celebrate Celtic and Scottish culture in this week long camp of games, challenges and role-playing.

Journey Back in Time!

First we outfit ourselves for the rugged terrain of the Highlands by making our own kilt, the essential gear of a Trackers Highland Ranger. We learn about the marking of ancient clans while crafting our own crests from the fantastical land of Cascadia.

We also train for our freedom with many heroes and legends of Scottish lore. From William Wallace to Rob Roy, you learn with foam swords, including our safe version of the Scottish longsword, the claymore. You also evade "Her Majesties" armies on the highland plains of Mt. Hood near Camp Trackers.

The Games

The games are not only for fun, they are opportunities to inspire and test ourselves in awesome events such as the Kid's Caber Toss and the "Kind of Heavy" Stone Put. All this plus a game of "Highland" disc golf (Portland style).

After all the hard work of the games, we celebrate with a bagpipe and fiddle party. A few brave may consider trying haggis (you really don't want to know what it is). We also perform traditional Scottish and Celtic dances.

Payment Plans

For families who need it, we can offer flexible payment plans. Contact Molly to learn more. A non-refundable deposit is always required to reserve your space.

A Smile

We help children to feel like that group of kids wandering country backyards 50 years ago: independent, tired, muddy, wet and happy from the woods and wild. We are acutely aware of full and real hazards of the out of doors after years of working in environmental education. We try to move away from the highly structured and limiting tolerances of conventional environmental education while keeping kids truly safe but not encapsulated from, or phobic of nature. We are deep patriots to the value of offering guided yet very free and transparent experiences for kids. We believe it is okay to be thirsty at times, cold at times, and wet at times. It builds empathy and care for the gifts of life. It fosters adventure and sincere accomplishment. We also believe it is critical to feel supported and cared for as they truly explore their passion and responsibility. And through a healthy life immersed in nature, they test the limits and great potential of the often untapped physical and emotional resiliency they possess
