Portland, Oregon Forest Fishing, Fly and Reel

Every kid should go fishing...
This week we fish! Imagine spending your summer days fishing for a feast! In this camp we visit the beautiful waterways of Portland and beyond learning to cast reel and rod, plus a "huck finn" fishing pole campers make themselves.
We wait patiently along the river wishing for fish. We sit by the shore enjoying the summer and if we are lucky, we cook our catch over an open fire. We also learn the story of the salmon, trout and many more creatures that live and thrive in our local rivers, lakes and ponds.
The Trackers Experience
Trackers fishing camps represent years of experience taking kids fishing. Our Mariners Guild knows the best locations and what works for kids. Our guidelines for safety around water, fishing tackle and shorelines have no equal. We have full access to our own private "Mariners Pond", the fabled Camp Trackers fishing hole where 18-inch trout abound.
Huck Finn Style
Every camper gets a chance to learn with reel and rod fishing tackle while they also craft their own "Huck Finn" style pole from bamboo or other flexible woods. They then take this DIY fishing pole home, ready with the knowledge of how to feed the family and village.
Ages 9-10 Wilder Rivers Older camps also learn how to tie flies to add to the simple bamboo pole they make.
Please Note Like all great fishing trips sometimes we catch a-lot of fish, sometimes we catch nothing. Yet we always have a tall tale to tell. If we do catch a fish this often means eating them in an open fire feast. At Trackers we feel understanding this cycle of life is a healthy process. We recommend you preface it with your child in the manner best for your family and its values.
Conservation and Invasive Species
When a fish is an invasive species to the ecosystem and our native species we will NEVER return it to a water. This is Oregon law. Invasive species for Oregon include bullfrogs, carp, bluegill and more. We automatically take these fish (or bullfrogs), either consuming them or freezing them for food later.
