Portland Growing Edible Mushrooms for Healthy Soil

Come learn how to grow mushrooms in outdoor spaces using low-tech methods. In this hands on workshop, we learn how to compost with mushrooms. If you can manage a compost heap, you can get delicious, organic and nutritious mushrooms to grow in just about any outdoor space.

Create mushroom friendly habitats

This is the best case scenario for that old saying, "Build it and they will come". By keeping a wide variety of plants in your grow space, i.e. weeds, perrenials and herbs, you can not only create a good mushroom habitat, you can also reap the many benefits of having mushrooms do all the nutrient cycling, soil building while enhancing your soils ability to hold water and not lose soil when it rains.

Using free resources

Straw, cardboard, woodchips, sawdust, burlap sacks, newspaper, coffee grounds among other practically free resources are a great way to build healthy, organic soil without using costly and toxic chemical inputs.
