Trackers Open Houses Portland, Oregon
After School & Summer Camp Open House March 17, 2012, 10am-2pm
There will be traditional skills demonstrations from flintknapping (stone arrowhead making) to fire by friction (look, no matches). You can also get hands-on experience tying knots for canoe building, watch metal forged by the fires of blacksmithing and even use an old-fashioned drop spindle to make yarn.
All this plus June Jacobson offers a Wild Edible Plants Whirlwind Tour* while David Jacobson & Tony Deis reveal to you their Ultimate Animal Tracking Secrets as we seek out the furred denizens living in nearby Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge. Finally, Jamey Proudstar Espinoza offers an unbelievable show of the sublime in his Street Magic Spectacular that will leave questioning your very perception of reality. Be prepared to be amazed!
Finally the day ends with a Q & A with your favorite Trackers staff as we humorously answer questions about the camps, programs and skills we offer.

*Caring for Urban Greenspaces This tour serves as an opportunity to teach important and vital knowledge in an urban environment. In that vein, we deeply respect our urban greenspaces and utilize their limited ecosystems strictly for observation. We actively discourage all unauthorized harvest and inappropriate use of our greenspaces in order to protect these invaluable resources unique to the city of Portland. More advanced classes for restorative harvest and off-trail study occur on private land.
