My Soccer Team
20th
May

I'm excited to eat crow. I have ranted, raved and praised about lessons supposedly learned during my 18 years of outdoor education, about theoretical wisdom gained while working with nearly 24,000 kids, about what the "wild" teaches me as to peoples' relationship to the land and what a tracker's eyes reveal when we look deeply into the connections that make a Village.

I'm ready to be wrong about it all. I'm excited for the small one coming to our family in early December. I assume in this youth program blog I'm mostly speaking to our parents. I know you'll all forgive me for my past audacity of pretending that I knew what I was talking about. I never really believe my rants are ever right. Seriously, how could I have known what it was like? In my world, kids have always gone home at the end of the day or week. No, I won't really feel it until I'm mashing carrots, waking up at 3AM, and giving her or him their first pocketknife.

Molly and I are going for broke. One day we're hoping to have enough to make a soccer team. And yes, I'll still work to stay true to what's wild while raising my own family. It's just that I fully understand that the reality is going to be far different and much more interesting than my assumptions.

Anyone know a good wolf pack that offers steady day care?

Important community announcements...

Kids Self Defense Workshop June 12 Local parent Joy Ceilidh and Campfire are hosting a workshop with the Portland Police on GirlStrength and BoyStrength. While it is not a Trackers program, it will be held at the Scout Pit. Learn more at the Sourgrass Patch Kids Camp Fire Club Website

Speaking of community! Joy took Trackers up on our offer to use the Scout Pit for free for family oriented community events. So we're just reminding parents out there, if you have a good cause that will benefit families, Trackers will donate use of our 3000 square feet of studio and event space just across the street from Oaks Bottom Wildlife refuge.
