Familiar Values
14th
April

I have deep roots. Seemingly gnarled, thick claws of a Douglas Fir sink me into a place I cannot leave. Tracking, Nature and Awareness are not defined by how much I think I know. It's not about having the best mentor of a skill or man-made philosophy. It's thicker than that.

Familiar does not have to mean you've seen it all. It can mean you’ve finally journeyed deep enough to truly see. What we find familiar also defines our family: Grandma’s wrinkles, Dad's enlightened grumpiness or our Sister's fears, joys and hopes.

We tread familiar earth over and over again with an eye for tenderness and love. New life is revealed in the wise and old. Growth thrives through the Seasons and a complex web of life is illuminated.

I do not feel trapped by those roots. Instead, grounded living carries me to greater depths of experience. I'm connected - sewn into a real village, responsible to the land, and what I find familiar reciprocates that love.

Finding connection with the land...

Wilderness Survival is more than survival. It's finding familiarity with the land. It's relying on Nature for your Shelter, Water, Fire and Food. Shaun Deller, our survival skills instructor, is well known for workshops that combine skill, compassion and intelligence.
