Never Normal
28th
October

I was the kid who hated playing games, singing songs and other normal kid things. I was passionate about playing baseball, making human traps, sci-fi and BB guns.

We often have these notions of what kids are "supposed" to like in our one-size-fits-all educational system. While we don't want to pander to youth, it does pay to look at them as individuals. This is especially crucial as we help them connect to nature and family. When I track a bear, I could presume its just a "bear" or I can look at the individual. I can truly see how her uniqueness relates to the greater ecology.

Today its especially pertinent that parents and educators be trackers, attending to the ever changing nuances of youth and the land they live. We must help children find their own gifts and where they truly feel useful in the village.
